Octopus Energy Joins Forces with Sainsbury's Smart Charge to Revolutionize EV Charging

Festive shopping became more eco-friendly and convenient for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, thanks to a new partnership between Octopus Energy’s Electroverse platform and Sainsbury’s Smart Charge.


With this collaboration, EV drivers can access over 560 ultra-rapid Smart Charge stations across 68 Sainsbury’s UK stores using a simple tap of their Octopus Electroverse card. These chargers, designed for speed and efficiency, can fully charge an EV in under 30 minutes—the perfect time to grab groceries or holiday essentials.


Festive Rewards for Charging:


 As a festive bonus, from 16 December to 10 January, drivers will earn 5 Nectar points for every £1 spent on charging, offering additional savings to lighten the holiday shopping load.


 Launched earlier this year, Sainsbury’s Smart Charge network boasts a +99% uptime, ensuring reliability, and features fully accessible bays at every site. By partnering with Electroverse, it joins a vast network of over 920,000 EV chargers across Europe, supported by over 1,000 charging brands.


 Octopus Electroverse is disrupting the EV landscape with its ‘one card, one app’ solution, eliminating the need for multiple apps and payment systems. As Europe’s largest consumer charging platform, Electroverse is revolutionizing public EV charging with simplicity and accessibility.


 The partnership comes as the UK achieves a milestone of nearly 90,000 public EV chargers installed nationwide. With four in five EV drivers reporting positive public charging experiences, the outlook for EV adoption continues to brighten.

 Drivers can quickly sign up for Octopus Electroverse online or via the app (available on Apple and Android). Once the Electroverse card arrives by post, users can start charging at Smart Charge stations immediately. App-based charging will roll out early in the New Year, enhancing convenience.
