ChargePoint Holdings has teamed up with intelligent power management giant Eaton to radically streamline the charger deployment process across North America and Europe. Their joint vision? A comprehensive, all-in-one ecosystem that integrates chargers, electrical infrastructure, and engineering services into a seamless offering for site operators and EV network builders.
Here’s the crux: ChargePoint, known for its robust cloud-based software and charging hardware, will merge capabilities with Eaton’s deep-rooted expertise in managing power systems. Together, they aim to eliminate the logistical fragmentation that has long plagued EV infrastructure rollouts. This marks a notable shift for ChargePoint—from being a hardware supplier to evolving into a full-spectrum charging solutions provider. The collaboration strengthens Eaton's foothold in eMobility, complementing existing offerings like electric powertrains, inverters, and advanced power distribution systems.
The timing is strategic. According to the International Energy Agency, electric vehicles could make up 60% of all road traffic by 2030, with adoption projected to grow at an annual rate of 23% until 2035. Yet despite this growth, one major roadblock persists: a chronic shortage of accessible charging stations. This is where the ChargePoint-Eaton partnership hopes to make a dent, with turnkey solutions designed to simplify deployments, accelerate installations, and ease the burden on developers and fleet operators.
However, collaboration doesn’t stop in infrastructure. The two companies are also exploring bidirectional charging and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies—an emerging frontier in EV innovation. With V2X, electric vehicles could charge from the grid and return the favor, feeding power back into homes, businesses, and even the grid during peak hours or outages. In essence, EVs could become mobile energy hubs, enhancing grid stability while unlocking new use cases for fleet managers and homeowners alike.
"Customers rely on Eaton to solve their toughest power management challenges. This game-changing partnership will help do just that for vehicle charging: bringing together trusted power distribution and EV charging solutions to simplify electrification at scale," said Paul Ryan, a general manager at Eaton.
“ChargePoint’s partnership with Eaton will deliver innovation that addresses the biggest barriers to electrified transportation,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint.
“Together with Eaton, we will create unprecedented value for institutions that deploy EV charging, accelerating electrification, and decarbonizing the planet in parallel.”
