In a bold move that combines sustainability with culinary innovation, the American burger chain has partnered with Wildfarmed, a UK-based pioneer in regenerative agriculture, to revamp its buns. From now on, every bun served across Shake Shack’s UK locations will be made with 25% regeneratively grown flour. This notable shift reflects the brand’s ongoing Stand For Something Good mission.
“We are so proud to partner with Wildfarmed to offer our UK customers an even more sustainable experience,” said Richard Franks, Business Director at Shake Shack.
“This decision reflects our commitment to doing what’s right over what’s easy, making a greater investment to support better farming practices, ingredient transparency and a more sustainable future for food. Better still, Shake Shack’s iconic burger buns will taste the same they always have.”
What exactly does “regenerative” mean in this context? Unlike conventional farming, Wildfarmed’s methods are rooted in soil health. Their practices aim to restore biodiversity, cut water pollution, and lower carbon emissions—all while producing high-quality wheat. It’s farming with a conscience, and Shake Shack is helping bring it to the masses.
Wildfarmed co-founder Edd Lees added: “Our mission is to accelerate the global transition to regenerative farming. We are passionate about improving people’s awareness about how the food we eat is grown and understanding its impact on the environment.
“Shake Shack place a lot of importance on where their food comes from, so this feels like a natural fit for us at Wildfarmed. We’re excited to be partnering together and to give more people the opportunity to have access to, and learn more about, regenerative farming.”
This partnership doesn’t stand alone; it’s part of a growing wave for Wildfarmed. Just earlier this year, the company launched the UK’s first regenerative oat flapjack in collaboration with energy brand Tribe. And its footprint is expanding rapidly.
Wildfarmed is now part of the Tesco Accelerator Programme, a significant step toward integrating regenerative ingredients into everyday food products. Its reach spans over 1,000 outlets, touching everything from school cafeterias to high-street staples like ASK Italian, Franco Manca, M&S, and Waitrose.
