Munro Vehicles, the UK-based manufacturer behind the rugged all-electric Series M 4×4, has appointed a new chairperson as it prepares for a significant expansion over the next 18 months. Avinash Rugoobur, a former executive at both General Motors and Arrival, has officially joined forces with founders Russ Peterson and Ross Anderson. His arrival comes at a pivotal moment, as the company wraps up testing on its purpose-built utility vehicle and prepares to scale production.

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Glasgow, Munro Vehicles set out to build an electric off-roader rugged enough for extreme environments, such as agriculture, infrastructure, mining, and even military use. This isn't your average EV.

Over the past 18 months, the company has subjected the Series M to rigorous trials. Only a few customer deliveries have taken place so far, but that’s about to change. Munro now plans to deliver nearly 250 vehicles to fulfill existing orders, totaling more than £17 million in value.

Announcing the appointment, Munro CEO and co-founder, Russ Peterson, said: “Avinash brings a wealth of experience from the global automotive and technology sectors and proven expertise in delivering sustainable, strategic growth for start-up and scale-up businesses.

“Together, we will establish Munro as the global leader in sustainable specialist 4×4 vehicles built for the world’s toughest industries and exploit the $337 billion global electric SUV market, which is expected to grow to $13.9 trillion by 2030.”

Avinash Rugoobur added, “It is an honour to accept the position of Munro chairman. All the components are there to ensure success. There is a clear need for such a specialist vehicle from customers in industries such as agriculture, emergency response, defence, infrastructure, and mining, targeting net zero.”

The Series M starts at £63,000 before VAT and comes in three configurations: a Utility SUV, a pick-up Truck, and a customizable Chassis designed for specialized builds. Customers can choose between two powertrain setups, both of which are built around an 85 kWh battery. One delivers 228 horsepower and 43 pound-feet of torque, while the other produces 375 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Both versions can handle a payload of 1,050 kilograms. Towing capacity differs, though, 2,250 kilograms for the standard model and 3,500 kilograms for the higher-spec option.

Although the Series M is street-legal, it was engineered primarily for off-road dominance. According to Munro, it outperforms even the most capable diesel off-roaders in terms of handling steep inclines, breakover angles, and departure clearances.

With a strong leadership team now in place and real momentum behind its product, Munro is positioning itself not just as a vehicle maker, but as a force in the future of sustainable utility transport.

Ross Anderson, Munro’s head of powertrain, noted: “Most vehicles in the SUV and truck segments are now designed with road use as their primary function; those attributes often compromise their suitability in off-road and commercial environments.

“Our products have market-leading off-road attributes, an underlying platform that can be adapted to specialist applications, and a unique safety strategy designed to address the risks light vehicles face in extreme and unpredictable environments. By producing durable, long-lasting, and serviceable electric vehicles, Munro offers a clean alternative for sectors that traditionally rely on fuel-hungry 4x4s to operate.”
