In a bold step toward revolutionizing sustainable living, Octopus Energy and Vistry Group have signed a landmark partnership to roll out the innovative ‘Zero Bills’ initiative across select housing developments. The deal aims to eliminate household energy bills for residents by integrating green technologies into home designs.

Launched in 2022, Octopus Energy’s ‘Zero Bills’ initiative offers a groundbreaking energy tariff guaranteeing no energy bills for ten years. Homes accredited under this program are equipped with solar panels, heat pumps, and battery storage, creating self-sustaining energy systems. This innovative model ensures residents live in environmentally friendly and cost-efficient homes.

Stephen Teagle, CEO, Partnerships and Regeneration, Vistry Group:

“Our focus on quality homes, placemaking and innovation is complemented by this partnership with Octopus. Reducing energy costs and the energy efficiency of our homes will positively impact thousands of future residents.

“Today’s announcement is another step in the right direction to ensure the communities we create have a lasting legacy that is affordable and future proof.”

The partnership has already identified hundreds of homes for ‘Zero Bills’ accreditation across Cambridgeshire, Warwickshire, and Wiltshire developments. Vistry is adapting its housing designs to integrate these technologies into mixed-tenure developments nationwide. The initiative will deliver affordable, energy-efficient homes for diverse communities through collaborations with partners such as Lloyds Living, SNG, and Clarion Housing Group.

Nigel Banks, ‘Zero Bills’ Director, Octopus Energy: “This partnership with Vistry marks the best of British innovation coming together to create the future of housing. ‘Zero Bills’ homes are a win for consumers, a win for housing developers and a win for the environment. And this deal will push us closer to our target of 100,000 ‘Zero Bills homes by 2030.”

Since its inception, the ‘Zero Bills’ initiative has accredited over 1,000 homes, spanning Build to Rent, affordable housing, private residences, and shared ownership models. Prominent developers like Aviva and Packaged Living have also adopted the tariff, showcasing its appeal across the housing market.

Octopus Energy and Vistry Group will partner with social housing developer SNG to host a Partnership Pavilion at the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum in 2025, showcasing their progress and future plans.

By combining sustainable design, innovative energy solutions, and partnerships with key stakeholders, Octopus Energy and Vistry Group set a new housing development standard. The ‘Zero Bills’ initiative addresses the growing demand for energy-efficient homes and paves the way for a more sustainable, affordable, and resilient housing future.
