Nestlé’s Supply-Chain Sustainability Partner Raises $22 Million to Fuel UK Expansion

Klim, a regenerative agriculture project developer and technology platform, has officially launched in the United Kingdom. The company’s mission is to help food and beverage businesses reduce risks and emissions across their supply chains while supporting farmers who are adopting more sustainable practices.

Klim is not new to this field. It already works with more than 4,000 farmers and oversees over two million acres of farmland across Germany and Poland. After raising $ 22 million in a Series A round in 2024, the company expanded its operations into Slovakia and the Czech Republic earlier this year. Its entry into the UK market comes alongside the appointment of Rory Davidson as Head of UK operations.

“Supply chain resilience has become a priority, and the UK must strengthen its national food production,” says Rory Davidson, Head of UK, Klim. “Farmers using regenerative practices are seeing less disruption in yields, and there is strong interest in scaling these methods across the public and private sectors.”

The timing is significant. The UK produces roughly 65 per cent of its own food, but extreme weather has started to disrupt production and drive up costs. The winter of 2023-2024 was the wettest on record, and by contrast, the spring of 2025 has been the warmest and driest ever recorded. These shifts have hit farmers hard. Potato prices climbed by 22 per cent in early 2024, while yields for cereals and oilseed rape fell below the five-year average. Studies show that healthier soils are more resilient under these conditions, which is why regenerative agriculture is becoming increasingly important.

Klim’s approach is to support and reward farmers who adopt regenerative methods. These include minimising soil disturbance, keeping live roots in the ground, maintaining soil cover, encouraging soil biology, and reducing the use of fertilisers and pesticides. By making these changes, farms can become more stable and resilient against floods, droughts, and other forms of climate stress.

The challenge is that transitioning to regenerative farming requires money and patience. Farmers may face upfront costs for new machinery or may need to absorb lower yields in the early years. Globally, the funding gap for transitioning food systems to regenerative models is estimated to be between $250 billion and $430 billion annually. In the UK, the picture is also tough. Farm scheme payouts are set to decrease by approximately 11 per cent in real terms compared to last year. Earlier in 2025, applications to the Sustainable Farming Incentive were paused due to budget shortfalls.

“Incentivising and rewarding farmers is critical, especially in the UK, where policy support has been reduced,” says Rob Gerlach, CEO and Co-Founder, Klim. “Klim provides farmers with agronomic guidance, documentation tools, and direct financial support through one platform.”

Meanwhile, expectations are rising. Both the UK government and initiatives such as the Sustainable Business Target Initiative are demanding higher standards on greenhouse gas reductions, biodiversity, soil management, and water use. Klim positions itself as a partner that can help businesses meet these standards through methods such as reduced tillage, more efficient fertiliser use, and carbon sequestration practices.

To strengthen its offering, Klim has also launched a footprint tool for crops and dairy. This provides farmers with a means to deliver reliable carbon data to their corporate partners. All results, both reductions and removals, are verified through independent audits.

“The UK has a developed food sector and a strong farming base,” adds Rory Davidson. “Policy is one factor, but many F&B leaders already recognise the risks. Klim connects these companies directly with their farmers, providing the tools and financial support needed to make regenerative farming viable.”
