Coldplay is doubling down on its sustainability efforts with a bold new move: the band is re-releasing all of its albums on clear 140-gram EcoRecords made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. These aren’t just a gimmick, they’re produced using an innovative injection-moulding process that cuts carbon emissions by up to 85 per cent compared to traditional vinyl manufacturing.

What’s remarkable is that EcoRecords look and sound just like regular vinyl. The difference? They’re made using 100 per cent recycled polyethylene terephthalate, or PET, the same lightweight, durable plastic used in common beverage bottles. It’s a material designed for circular use, which means less shipping weight, lower emissions, and easier recycling at the end of the product’s life.

Each album pressed in this format uses the equivalent of about nine recycled PET bottles. These bottles come from post-consumer recycling, collected from everyday users, cleaned thoroughly, ground into small pellets, and then reformed into new records. Although EcoRecords can technically be made with either virgin PET or recycled PET, Coldplay has committed to using only the recycled kind for every single one of their releases.

This latest initiative builds on the band’s earlier move with Moon Music, their 10th album, which made history as the first-ever 140-gram LP produced entirely from recycled PET. That record paved the way, and now Coldplay is scaling it across their entire discography.

The band’s focus on environmental innovation doesn’t stop there. During their Music of the Spheres world tour, they’ve already slashed their carbon emissions by 59 per cent, a major step forward in showing that sustainability and large-scale entertainment can go hand in hand.

Jen Ivory, Managing Director, Parlophone, says: "We are incredibly proud to partner with artists such as Coldplay who share our commitment to a more sustainable future for music. The shift to EcoRecord LP for their releases is a testament to what's possible when innovation meets intention. It's not just about a new product; it's about pioneering manufacturing that significantly reduces environmental impact, providing fans with the same high-quality audio experience while setting a new standard for physical music production."
