Last week, Sustainable Times had the pleasure of attending the launch of Acer's Vero range at the stunning Kew Gardens. Nestled in the heart of the Princess of Wales Conservatory, surrounded by lush tropical plants, it was easy to forget I was still in London. The tranquil setting provided the perfect backdrop for reflecting on sustainability and the vital need to protect our planet.
Acer has embraced post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics in their products to combat plastic waste. By replacing virgin plastics in its products, the company reduces energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and landfill waste. Between 2020 and 2022, over 30 million Acer units incorporated PCR plastics. Acer is on track to meet its goal of 20-30% PCR plastic content by 2025.
Acer's Aspire Vero laptop range leads its eco-friendly innovation. Made with 30% PCR plastics, the Vero laptops combine sustainability with high performance, demonstrating that eco-conscious products can rival traditional alternatives. As part of its Early Black Friday promotion, Acer UK is offering the Aspire Vero for as little as £597 at Currys. Customers who register their purchase receive a free set of accessories, (a laptop case, mouse, and mouse mat) valued at £89.97 and made entirely from recycled materials.
Acer’s partnership with Plastic Bank amplifies its impact. For every Vero laptop purchased and registered in the UK, the company removes 80 kilograms of plastic waste from the environment. This equates to more than the average annual plastic waste generated per UK household. This initiative is projected to prevent the equivalent of 2.5 million plastic bottles from polluting oceans.
Partnering with adventurer and TV personality Ben Fogle, Acer is spreading the message that technology and sustainability can go hand in hand. Fogle said, "The Vero range, especially the Aspire Vero 16, demonstrates that you don't have to choose between performance and protecting our planet. It’s the ideal device for the eco-conscious consumer.”
